What are considered environmental toxins?
- Environmental toxins are substances, both natural and human-made, that can negatively affect human health. This includes chemicals, compounds, and organisms that disrupt biological processes.
- Common environmental toxins include heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic, as well as chemicals like BPA, phthalates, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- Many environmental toxins are endocrine disruptors, meaning they interfere with the body's hormone system and can cause developmental, reproductive, and other health issues.
- Exposure to environmental toxins is widespread and can occur through air, water, food, household products, and more. The effects depend on the dose and duration of exposure.
What are the negative effects of environmental toxins?
- Environmental toxins have been linked to a range of health problems, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory issues, neurological disorders, and reproductive/developmental problems.
- Specific health effects can include anemia, organ damage, infertility, birth defects, autoimmunity and more.
How can I reduce my exposure to environmental toxins?
- While it's impossible to completely eliminate exposure, there are steps people can take to reduce their exposure, such as:
- Avoiding plastic containers, use glass/stainless steel instead
- Washing produce, choosing organic when possible

- Testing home air and water for toxins like radon + using water and air filters like an AirDoctor & Berkey!
- Not smoking and avoiding secondhand smoke
- Keeping plants in the home!!!
